Law Personal Statement Example 103

Law is the foundation of all society. It undermines what we do, what we say, how we live. It controls how we operate and function within society. Laws put in place aid some and hinder others.

They are followed as much as they are disobeyed. We live in fear of not following these laws while others live with contempt of not following them, and for that reason there will always be a need for individuals with expertise of the law system, a system that regulates our actions.

I have always been interested in the law system, I had a fascination with how it could resolve conflict and how it could affect lives. It first caught my attention during my reading of 'To Kill A Mockingbird' and how despite society failing the protagonist, Atticus Finch, he still done what he believed was right and done the moral thing, which in my opinion is what law is based on: morals and ethics. A career in law allows you to make a direct impact on society, something that excites me.

After researching the subject further, I discovered that a career in law is so vivid. I became interested in not only law in general but specifically criminal law and business law. I was interested how people come to break the law in many ways however regardless are classed as criminals, also how it undermines how we run businesses from money flow, to when we can open. Everything we do is to follow one of the many laws in place.

The ethics and philosophy of law have also recently sparked my interest. Specifically, the moral and cultural considerations that surround more controversial areas of law such as the death penalty have led me to understand the link between morality and the law.

Since leaving 6th form I attended university on a computer science course as I thought this was ideal for me however I found this did not actually interest me as I thought and think law would be the ideal course for me now. I am currently having a break from education and find myself researching and reading about new laws coming into effect as well as current ones, this activity satisfies my interest for now and would like to further this by doing law at a higher level of study.

I am a dedicated, hardworking individual with an eye for detail in my work. I am currently a shift manager in my current job at McDonalds meaning I have to be confident and organised with good leadership skills.

Outside of work I like to socialise with my friends and spend time with my family as these are a big part of my life. My hobby is to play guitar which I have done for over 7 years perfecting different techniques. I also enjoy to watch football and go the gym in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
