Bournemouth University reviews

Bournemouth University review

Bournemouth University is a very modern, young and fashionable Uni.
In terms of the university courses, they are very vocational, with most courses offering a year's placement in the third year. This placement opportunity is definitely one of the best features as it means that you have to find a job for just over a year in your related subject area, which is ideal as it forces you to get used to the real world!
My course, public relations, at Bournemouth, is the best course in the country, and most of the other media courses such as journalism, marketing and advertising are also very highly regarded, especially by employers. Lectures take between 6 and 16 hours a week, which is not too bad, leaving time for a part-time job if necessary.
Obviously being by the lovely sandy beach is just an added bonus! Many days can be filled relaxing...I mean reading and revising on the beach! My first day in fact was spent sunbathing with my newly made flat-mates!
The halls of residence are nice too, en-suite showers, oh yes if you’re lucky and you get your accommodation form in quickly! Otherwise you will be put in houses, hotels or B & B's! Which isn't so bad either. The average rent is about £60 in halls then £60 plus bills in houses in the following years.
The town is brilliant for shopping too, and it’s all within walking distance to the beach! There’s a fantastic milkshake place too, specially made milkshakes from smarties to skittles, and you get a student discount!
Not to mention the nightlife! Every night there will be a student night somewhere, £1 any drink, £3 all drinks free, I could go on! All music tastes seem to be catered for too. Not only that but we also have our own nightclub, "The Firestation." There are comedy nights, dressing up nights and special D.J appearances too!
The main form of transport around for students is the Yellow Buses, which is £3 for ten journeys to and from uni, or into town or home. Lots of people have bikes too though as its very flat!
All in all, the only bad thing about Bournemouth is you'll have no money left as there is so much to spend it on!

Bournemouth University review

Bournemouth is a great place to be a student. There is so much to do that you can get easily distracted from your work - but then i never do any anyway...

it is definitely a summer town and there is a completely different feel around christmas to the summer term when it gets really really hot and sunny. its a shame for all those people who do like humanities courses and have to revise whilst the rest of us are down the beach... hah!!!

anyway, the nightlife is great, with loads of cool pubs and clubs. the biggest is reknowned opera house where they have slinky on friday nights.

all the shops are there too, and the beach is really nice and not too far from the university - probably about 5-10 minutes if you've got a bike. only problem is that in summer it can get absolutely rammed solid, though its not so bad during term time.

if you go there during summer though, at least 3 tattoos and 2 screaming kids is mandatory to feel part of the place.
