How do I write a US law school personal statement?

To write a successful U.S law school personal statement, will need to:

  • Find out what the admissions staff are looking for in your statement
  • Start brainstorming and making notes as early as possible
  • Avoid cliches, jokes and humour
  • Tell a story
  • Be honest and genuine
  • Let your passion and enthusiasm shine through
  • Talk about your life plans, i.e. your career etc.
  • Be specific and don't waffle - this isn't the time or place for your life story!
  • Grab the tutor's attention with a memorable opening and conclusion
  • Revise and edit your statement thoroughly
  • Get feedback from family, friends and tutors
  • Make sure it's error-free when you submit it.

How do I prepare for the LSAT?

To successfully pass the LSAT, you will need to:

  1. Read about what's involved. There are five different multiple choice sections you should familiarise yourself with.
  2. Start preparing early (at least 3 or 4 months before you're due to take your test)
  3. Buy some textbooks for practical tips and advice
  4. Think about using an LSAT prep company
  5. Complete some practice tests
  6. Identify areas for improvement.
