MSc Animal Nutrition Personal Statement Example
It is of no doubt that animals are very important component of our ecological set up and together with other terrestrial fauna makes our ecosystem complete. This also describes the interdependency that exist between human beings and animals. Far it be from the products we obtain from the animals such as meat, milk, etc for food and other benefits like leather for comfort and other aesthetic satisfaction, there is also companionship just as humans also provide for their fellow humans.
In fact, just as humans treat themselves well, such extension should be accorded to animals ranging from undomesticated to domesticated farm animals in terms of their feeding, watering and without exemption of their sanitary or hygienic conditions.
As an animal scientist, who has developed passion for animals since my childhood through to the completion of my undergraduate degree, I have learnt and observed that the most intriguing factor that militates against animals’ growths and development is their ‘nutrition’. I believe that, most importantly animals’ survival and growth depend on the type of ration they are often been administered especially our farm animals be it ruminants such as cattle, sheep and goat down to monogastric herbivore like, pig, grasscutter, rabbit through to the Aves. Moreover, the type of feed given to the animal go a long way to affect their productive performance, this is to add that poor nutrition or unbalanced ration given to animals may be detrimental to their health.
Most of the animal vulnerabilities are as a result of the kind of formulated diet that are given to them. This is mostly seen in West Africa (Ghana) where animals are just given random leftover feeds because they are given much importance. Through my inquiry from some sampled households, this however, draws our attention on the priority many people here give to animal and the high cost feeds in animal farming and as a result, the needed ingredients that are needed to formulate a well-balanced nutrition is missing. Due to these above stated premises, my passion for improving animal’s nutrition has been fueled the more and it is the main driving force in my pursuit for this course [ MSc. Animal Nutrition] at the University of Glasgow.
Recently, after my undergraduate program in Agriculture Science Education, I see myself to have been introduced more to the broad side of things rather than being a specialist to undertake certain task as a nutritionist. As a result, I have not been able to contribute much to the animal science fraternity as I should if I had successfully completed this program.
Having in addition this, Master’s Degree would help broaden my horizon and would deepen the depth of my knowledge on the subject matter and able to formulate balanced ration at less cost using plant herbs as supplements with less risk factors. More so, this would give me the opportunity in exploring various phytogenic feed additives, plants phenolics that could be inculcated in the formulation of the animal feed to be used as naturally, environmentally-friendly immune boosters for animals to withstand seasonal disease outbreaks.

This SOP is very needful in pursuit of Animal nutrition in agriculture. Animals growth have positive correlation with the feed the consume. This therefore, beckons on us animal scientist to do the needful by delving deeper into what ingredients that must be added together to maximize nutrients for the animals.
