Why do humans act the way they do? It seems a simple question, but you're as likely to know the answer as you are to learn of the meaning of life. But that doesn't mean we don't try. When I applied for college, I took Psychology simply because I was curious, but now, it enthrals me; studying the different theories put forward as to why we do certain things, or why we don't; delving into the minds of the depressed, the murderous or the deranged and generally trying to explain the things we do unconsciously, like conform..

Psychology/philosophy personal statement
When in life can you truly say you enjoy what you do? Far too many times you hear people talking of ‘enduring’ their work, or ‘getting by’ in life, far too seldom do we actually hear of people savouring it, being enthused by it, enjoying it! This is what divides a good student from a passing student, actually enjoying what they do, and this is my aim not just for my studies but for my working life as well, to find fulfilment in and actual relish my work – this may seem like a common aspiration, but so few ever achieve it! Both of my parents work and have always worked in the care industry, they posses very select and specialised characteristics that allow them to be the best at their jobs that they can be, so from an early age I have been seeped in an environment of complex psychology about mental ability, counselling and stigma, Their work and ways of thinking being imprinted into my socialisation from childhood..

Who am I? This is possibly the most ambiguous question, whereby a hidden depth of meaning is drowned by a trivialized sense of simplicity. I think these personal statements are a great resouce for anyone wishing to get ahead in the areas of psychology in which they are interested. Food for thought indeed. I could have only dreamt of such a resource when I was a lad, tripping over the numerous stepping-stones in the long path, without a community such as this, a collection of information to act as my guide.
No, when I was young, all I had was a dream and a drive to study psychology. I still remember when I first announced it to my parents. I asked, "is this alright?" and my mom got scared, she said "you're movin' with your auntie an uncle in bel-air"

You are a dick. Dont even bother writing a personal statement if thats the way you write, you'll only embarass yourself.

HELP! by guest at 07/10/2010 17:38:26

Im currently tyring to write my perosnal statement, and am still unsure whether to study psychology on its own, or be more specific with criminology/forensic psycchology. Will my personal statement be okay if it is based around psychology on its own, even if i apply for these courses??

I loved the comment "as I sat amongst the wreckage".

I must admit, I pondered a career in psychology whilst I was being raped... I thought, what is motivating this rapist, and from that I knew psychology was my passion.

Oh my god! You too...

I realised my passion for psychology when (post-rape) I was scrubbing my skin in a scalding hot shower. I pondered, why is this so painful... from this experience I developed an interest in the biological basis of pain and individual's coping mechanisms.

Why can't you so called clever people Spell by guest at 25/02/2013 15:28:13

I am appalled at the bad grammar and poor spelling of today's young people. I think you should all go back to school and start again with basic English language and spelling.
