Welfare: The Union runs a Nightline service; Councelling through the University Health Service, and other help can be sought through the Student Services desk for information on Hardship and the likes.

Union also runs a nightbus service for women, at 1 each way, will run you from the Union concourse to you door, between around 10 PM - 2.30 AM

Healthcare: One of your duties during Freshers Week is to sign up with University Health Service, which is to be located in a new building off West Street.

Branches of Specsavers and Scrivens are available in the city, both offering discounts to students, as well as some independant stores.

The main Accident & Emergency is Northern General Hospital.

Shops: Other than the Meadowhall Shopping Centre, a tram ride away - the city centre offers two main high street areas - Fargate (near Cathedral tram stop) and The Moor. For the best part you'll find what you need for day to day life down one or the other of those.

Castlegate Market shouldn't be forgotten (Fitzalan Square / Ponds Forge tram stop) for a huge selection of meats, fish and fresh fruit at the cheapest prices around.

Restaurants: No information about restaurants.

 

Banks: The usual, Barclays, Yorkshire, RSB, HSBC, Natwest, Lloyds TSB, Halifax, Alliance & Leicester - either found in Broomhill, the University, or the City Centre.

Transport: See the transport review.

Careers: Sheffield University Careers Service can be found just off Western Bank, near the Staff Club.

Part-time jobs: With the amount of bars, off licenses and supermarkets around - there is always the opportunity to find a student job; be quick though as demand for these are high, bearing in mind that the 2nd / 3rd years will have moved in before you.

Religous facilities: No information about religous facilities.
