Business Management Personal Statement Example 5

‘A business has to be involving, it has to be fun, and it has to exercise your creative instincts.’ – Richard Branson

Since successful completion of my work experience at the end of Year 10, I have developed an ever-increasing interest in Business, the people involved in it and how I might use my skills to one day compete in that environment. I spent two weeks at Global E plc, a software and communications company; and knew immediately this was the type of competitive arena in which I would thrive. Here I was set the task of designing and presenting a product called ‘IMPACT’ to my very own Head teacher.

Upon completion I received various commendations and was employed with that company in the summer. My understanding of the corporate world has enhanced greatly throughout my A level course; and I find it is this that propels me towards a degree in business. I have always wanted to go to University both to challenge myself against the most rigorous of academic standards, along with the will to experience the array of extra curricular activities that it offers.

I have been employed at the prestigious clothing outlet ‘Tommy Hilfiger’ for nine months as a sales associate during my A level courses. I have gained first hand experience of the work place, working with customers and staff, seeing which product sells well, how to maximise the customer experience and have always enjoyed applying my business study knowledge into my job. On an inter-personal level, I am able to communicate with customers, colleagues and management alike.

In successfully balancing my study periods with the necessity to earn money, I have greatly sharpened my organisational ability. To continue my interest for business and develop potential employment opportunities, I have arranged a work placement this summer, 2010, to shadow a team of underwriters in a City of London re-insurance company, Endurance.

In a recent school business studies project my team were set the task of researching and developing ideas in which to save a local ‘struggling’ business in my town. Our presentation proved very successful and in turn the company have decided to take on many of the ideas we produced. I pride myself in the many extra curricular activities I undertake in my own time.

I have a Duke of Edinburgh Bronze award; last year I represented my school as a prefect, I have been a successful peer mentor, I am a qualified life-guard and I have played football for my local team since the age of 11. These diverse activities have helped me to develop a strong team ethic as well as important leadership qualities, which I know will help me and my fellow students tremendously at university level.

Achieving a distinction grade for ICT at GCSE combined with the use of my own computer regularly in my spare time, I find myself highly computer literate and have undertaken studies to develop my skills in word processing and web-authoring packages (such as Dreamweaver).

As a keen sportsman I am particularly eager to make full use of the sporting activities university has to offer. In addition to playing football for my local ‘senior’ side, I regularly help to coach my younger brother’s team, who were very successful this year, winning both their league and district cup. I have even tried being a linesman and hope to continue this next season.

I hope that by undertaking my degree at university I will gain the opportunity to develop and diversify my interest in business and its fundamental role in a successful society. Despite the tough economic climate and long term financial difficulties ahead, I very much look forward to the challenges that university will bring. I am convinced that my hard working attitude and proven determination will ensure success in this subject.
