Veterinary Medicine Personal Statement Example 4

From an early age I have been fascinated by the skill and professionalism of a modern equine podiatrist, captivated by the knowledge and ability of providing an essential job, but also in my eyes an artist and at one with a horse. My interest and curiosity into the trade stemmed from my early life growing up in the company of the horse, and this allowed me into the area of farriery.

From this flair of enthusiasm and technique, developed over a number of years I knew that a career within the equine industry is my only pathway in life, and it naturally became clear that equine podiatry is my calling. Although the industry can be tough, I am determined to make my way into a successful, but ultimately a full filling career. I do not see farriery as a job; I see it as a life choice, one that is completely suited and sculptured around my outlook and wanting in life. I believe in keeping this craft alive and strong.

To further my insight into the equine podiatry field I participated in a work shadowing week of my personal farrier, who tends to my own horses. This was a natural direction to take for me, having always wanted to spend as much time as possibly observing the skill. I gained a valuable understanding of the workings and skills required to be in this profession, with many opportunities to observe and speak to the clients regarding farriery.

As well as these benefits, I also gained an unprecedented insight into the business management and financial side of farriery, meaning I obtained a complete understanding and transparent stare into the reality of this industry. This fantastic look only deepened my desire and yearns to be part of this trade, and continually spurred me on to reach my goal. I was able to participate in all aspects of day to day life of the farrier, allowing me to thoroughly know that this is the career for me.

I was stunned by the professionalism and twinning of this trade woven into the countryside economy. Another aspect I learnt and utterly enjoyed was the social side of this career – the integration of this skill into the client’s horse’s life, left me feeling satisfied. I loved getting to know clients, what they do, what their horses do, this completely fulfilled the experience and i felt deeply advantaged to be part of this. I was also lucky enough to be present on a corrective procedure involving a vet, this collaboration of skills and knowledge from both parties was almost a joy to observe as the best course of action for the animal in question was decided. It then became clear to me that this trade is completely depended upon.

My aspiration for an equine career I believe reflected in my A-Level choices where good time management, self motivated study skills and ability to cope with many people are required. Geography has led me to gain many skills such as time management and the ability to manage work loads, it has taught me to prioritise and effectively plan time out so that every aspect of work is complete on time. I pride myself on time-keeping and deadlines, as I believe this is a heavy reflection on my work ethic and output.

Product design has also taught me a range of skills, mainly self motivated study, having to produce large portfolios of work to meet deadlines. I have learnt to improve on mistakes to ultimately produce a high standard of work. My down time, as mentioned consists of my competition career within the show-jumping field – this in itself requires a vast amount of dedication, leadership, decision making and time management, a clear illustration of my skills I possess and use on a day to day basis.

I believe myself to be a self motivated and determined individual with a clear idea of where I am heading in life. I cannot wait to engulf my curiosity in this subject and learn the skills, as well as apply my passion and dedication to this industry on a commercial level. I am aware of the demands of an equine career but my commitment and desire to achieve my goal has only been strengthened (4000) through my experience gained and knowledge learnt.
