De Montfort University review

DMU Bedford

Location: situated near to the A1 and M1 offering reasonable rail and bus links the town is easy to get to. The university has two campuses, Polhill situated at the north of Bedford and Lansdown to the south.

When I started at this uni, I was in halls at Polhill. These halls aren’t too bad, quite spacious rooms and you are more likely to get a single room at polhill than you are at lansdown.
From what I’ve heard from friends, lansdown halls are pretty awful. However there are plans for lansdown to be sold and polhill to be revamped.

Even though I was in halls at polhill my lectures are based at lansdown (a 30 min walk, however now there is a uni bus which is free).

The course I am on is BA PE with QTS secondary. I will be very honest and say that its is not ran as well as it should be. My year seems to get craped on all the time. The university has taken this onboard and tried to improve for the future (but that doesn’t help my year).

Even though Lansdown is old it has some great facilities based at the site and at the nearby sports centre (ASH):
Sports halls
Gymnasium
Gym
Sports fields
Courts
Swimming pool
Dance studio

Lansdown does have an SU bar, but as I live nearer to Polhill in a student house I go to the Polhill bar, where every Wednesday is sports night and all the teams go out after matches on the lash.
If you don’t fancy that then here is a run down of the places to be on a night out:
Monday: Chicargos then on to Mission night club (very good)
Tuesday: Town, as its student night. Loads of cheep booze, most go on to Amigo’s (dive, full of townies).
Wednesday: Polhill
Thursday: Enigma night club (good) or Mission
Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: Cinema, bowling, Oasis pool, shopping in town centre, etc in the day, as the rest become pricey at the weekend.

Overall I do like Bedford, there are loads of things to do and it is a home from home. However I would be happier if my course was better, but hey you can’t have everything.
