University of Central Lancashire review

UCLAN or Preston uni as its more fondly known is situated in the city of Preston.

The city although small has everything you need without ever venturing out of Preston, for the shopaholics it is 10 minutes away from the shopping centre (albeit small), for the serious shopaholics Manchester or Leeds is just a train ride away, for those who enjoy a tipple or two .. there are loads of pubs, bars, clubs, restaurants and the student union. Being situated in the North-West a pint is cheaper than London.

My favourite things about UCLAN
*The library - plenty of computer terminals, food area and a ban of mobiles.
*The train station just 10mins away from the main campus - perfect for that escape, or trudge home.
*University accomodation isn't too bad, the accomodation office people are really helpful.
*The business studies building is rather impressive.
* All the campuses are relatively near and easy to find.
*Harris library, nice and peaceful.
*The Bridge - a university job centre for students

My dislikes about UCLAN
-People hogging the computers in the library
-The Fylde building, its depressing to look at and work in.
- Rough pikey teenagers that hang about
-The constant rain (ok not the uni fault)
-Small amounts of people studying a module (not very motivating)
-No starbucks

My course which involves studying a language for 4 years and going abroad in the 3rd year is interesting but a hard slog. Its worth the had work for the year abroad and there you suddenly find out that the 2 years that you have studied at UCLAN were not very productive after all. Its a real eye opener.

I never joined a club or society because a) I didn't want to part with my well- earned cash b)I have better things to do on a Wednesday afternoon.

I think Preston university is ok, it works on a module system (where you have some flexibility in choosing your modules) and modifying it to tailor your needs but before you apply make sure you check the small print and bits and bobs of the course your interested in. You wouldn't want to end up in a course with just two people now :)
