Health centre registration

Date: 05/10/2003

Registering with a doctor just in case I get ill

When I got my registration pack from Essex, there was a small section talking about doctor and health arrangements. I was told in this information that I was required to register with a doctor on campus, and was given a form from the health centre to fill in and send back. Filling in the form did not automatically register me with a doctor, to do that I had to attend the health centre in person.

When I arrived at the university I was also given a small pack from the health centre, giving me an appointment time to attend the heath centre, some information about it and a bottle for a urine sample. Along with checking my urine (for protein and sugar content apparently), they would also measure my height, weight and blood pressure.

So I went along to the heath centre at my appointed time and was given back the form I had filled in earlier, along with another official looking NHS form which I needed to fill in. This new form just asked things like name, old and new addresses and phone numbers and who my old doctor was. Once this was filled in I had to go and see a nurse who took my blood pressure and then a doctor who just asked me a few questions about when I had last had injections and things and that was pretty much it.
