Computer Science Personal Statement Example 47

At first, it was all about the interest to know exactly what really brings the voice in to the radio speakers, then as I came across Science in my junior years at school, I started to understand what really is happening in our days, the world of technology. Although we had a computer at home, I understood nothing about it other than playing computer games on it all the time whenever my dad is not home.

But it wasn't until I went to Polytechnic of Namibia where I gained my first distinction in Basic Computer Use, as I always use to spend most of my time in the Computer Laboratory trying to understand what really is a computer and how does it process data. I developed huge interests to work in the IT industry.

Computers become an everyday subject to me and my mind started opening up to the advantages and disadvantages technology has and yet to bring into our world. Being able to use the internet everyday at home, college and by word of mouth, I became aware of a wide range of communication types we get from computers and understood that computers use applications and programs developed by people just like me, to handle and process data, thus making them the most useful tool in our day to day life, especially in business and other industries.

During my time at The UK College of Arts & Technology, I became able to write program code and gained some useful skills about Programming, using Databases, Spreadsheet as well as processing Word documents at an advanced level, and I gained a Pass Mark in 3 Modules. And now that am studying Computing and ICT at The Manchester College, I am very impressed on how fast am progressing with the subjects needed for my future career, including Web Design, Literacy, Numeracy and Hardware Theory, which enabled me to understand more about computer components and their use. I also attend additional Maths Excellence classes at The University of Manchester.

As well as studying, I also have been working as a Carer Assistant since 2006. I find it very interesting to work with elderly people, helping them with all their needs as required. It is a challenging job, thus a good quality of communication is a must for one to be successful. As am originally from Africa, it didn't take me long to adopt to this environment and its culture and it was easy to get on with people from different backgrounds and make new friends.

But there was always and still is something I need to understand the most, but only if I am to progress further with my studies at the appropriate learning institution, I can get some satisfaction about it, and that's understanding more about how some programmed applications can be so useful as well as harmful by putting computer users at risk of Identity theft and sometimes lead to the abuse and even death of innocent people.

Crackers write viruses to destroy peace in the internet communities and hackers write anti-viruses to prevent this from happening, what is now clear to me is that, crackers write viruses to destroy lawful internet use and hackers write anti-viruses to prevent the from doing this. In terms of skills and knowledge there is no difference between them. It is now of my huge interest that I want to become one of the world's best hackers who are able and trying to defeat crackers from progressing with their evil work.

I therefore decided to apply to a higher education institute so that with their support I can further my studies and develop new skills which will help me achieve my goal.
